In the spirit of Christmas, we’ll be offering gift ideas in the form of our 25 reviews of Christmas.  First on the list is the Pro Sheath Pliers from T-Reign.  We’ve all tried just about every type of fishing pliers that there is on the market.  We’ve purchased the ones from all the major outdoor retailers, big box type stores dropping anywhere from $25 to $40 or more on a pair of fishing pliers.  Unfortunately, if you’re like me, they never tend to last.  They either seize up from the constant saltwater abuse or they rust up at some point.  If you’re like me, then you’re rough on your equipment, and that’s never a good thing.

In comes the Pro Sheath Pliers from T-Reign.  Ladies and gentlemen, I have truly found my last set of fishing pliers, and for several reasons.  Here are some of the features for the Pro Sheath Pliers from T-Reign:

Pro Sheath Pliersopplanet-t-reign-prosheath-ret-fishing-pliers-sheath-combo-blk-0tfs-1211[1]

  • Heavy Duty Molded Sheath
  • Replaceable Tungsten Carbide Cutters
  • Spring Loaded Comfort Grip Handles
  • Replaceable Stainless Steel Jaws
  • 7.5″ Lightweight Aluminum Pliers
  • 36″ Retractable Kevlar Tether
  • MSRP: $79.95

Like most of you, the pliers I’ve purchased from Gander Mountain, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Wal-Mart, or Academy Sports have all had the small coiled leash attached to the pliers that gives you roughly a foot of reach.  Personally, I’m not a huge fan because when I retrieve a fish, it could be on either side of my kayak, and I normally put my pliers on my right side, since I’m right-handed.  A foot reach isn’t really helping me much, and the alternative is not securing the pliers, and we all know that leads to all kinds of potential disasters.  The 36″ Kevlar tether on the Pro Sheath Pliers means that I can attach the sheath on my belt, thus securing the pliers, yet still have the reach for both sides of my kayak.  The lanyard attaches easily and quickly, and away goes the fear of watching your pliers sink to the bottom of your favorite fishing hole.  The pliers themselves are very light, and comfortable in your hands, and the cutters cut braid like it’s going through butter.  The plier tips also work as split ring pliers making it easy to switch out the rings on your favorite hardbaits.

These are easily the best pliers that I’ve ever used, and these would serve your favorite kayak angler for years to come.
