A couple of months back, we were introduced to Eddy Gear Kayaks, based out of Georgia. We were given the opportunity to test out Eddy Gear’s entry level sit on top fishing kayak, the Stingray XL. The Stingray XL is a well made sit on top fishing kayak with lots of features that are included with the initial purchase. Check out our thoughts on this new yak.

Stingray XL

Eddy-Gear Stingray XL Kayak with its extra wide hull offers unmatched stability for anglers. From flat water, to ocean surf, to small water, the Stingray XL has all the features anglers demand like extra rod holders, ex-large rear tank well, foot controlled rudder system, easy to reach front and rear hatches, and a center console for additional storage with a lid to mount additional equipment. The Stingray XL track extremely well, is very stable, and with the included rudder, you will save energy on long paddles, windy days, or in strong currents. A great stable kayak for avid fishing or recreational use.

There’s a ton of great features on the Stingray XL kayak. This is an ideal kayak for the newcomer or beginner to the sport of kayak fishing. The seat has been upgraded to offer more comfort on your bottom. There’s a nice cam lock hatch at the bow of the yak, as well as a smaller circular hatch in front of you. The center console can be cut out giving the angler rod storage or works perfectly to store extra gear like lures, pliers, grips, etc. It has 2 rear flush mount rod holders, and also comes with a rod holder you can mount on the center hatch or on the gunnel of the kayak. The kayak tracks very true, even without the rudder. The rudder is also toe controlled which allows for keeping a brace point with the foot pegs. The rear tank-well is pretty large, giving the angler plenty of room to store a crate, BlackPak, or decent sized cooler.

I was very pleased with the performance of the Stingray XL on the water. Paddling this kayak was very easy and effortless, and cruised through the water with ease. The kayak seemed to glide across the water. The kayak is also stable enough to take your son or daughter on with you. I had my 6yr old son, Gavin, on the kayak with me riding along and even standing while paddling down the creek. If you’re in the market for a new kayak, and looking to enter the sport of kayak fishing, I highly recommend trying out the Stingray XL from Eddy Gear.
