We took the kids fishing on New Year’s Day to kick off 2015 the right way. I was always taught that what you’re doing on the first day of the year is what you’ll be doing mostly throughout the year. Of course with that kind of conventional thinking, I wanted to spend the day on the water with my sons catching redfish, Outlaws style! We, at Yak Outlaws, have always been huge proponents of getting kids out on the water. Teaching our Junior Outlaws the joy of kayak fishing has always been a passion with my 2 sons, Garrett & Gavin. Every chance we get, I take my Junior Outlaws out kayak fishing as much as possible. I want my Junior Outlaws to grow up with a respect for the outdoors, and love kayak fishing as much as I do.
The day started out a bit dreary, and I have to admit, I was worried that our fishing trip would have been cut short. We paddled out to our fishing spot, and my young Outlaws quickly turned the day around, catching redfish after redfish. In true Outlaws fashion, we even had a little side competition going between us. It as myself and Garrett against mommy and Gavin. We were able to keep count for a little while, but with the bite going as strong as it was, we lost count of all the redfish caught during those few hours on the water. I’ve always said that there’s nothing more fun and exciting to see and hear, than watching a child get so excited about catching a fish and reeling it in. Their joy and excitement has a way of putting it all in perspective for us.
We finished the day with tons of smiles, laughs, and sore forearms, but my Junior Outlaws had a blast on the water, and we left with memories that will last a lifetime!
