Day 6 of the Yak Outlaws 25 Days of Christmas Gift Guide features vetran angler Tim Stouder’s take on the popping cork and spinner lure from New Concept Lures.

Robert Coxey has been at the forefront of fishing evolution for many years. I actually got to meet the legend about 5 years ago and that relationship has grown into a friendship today. My favorite search baits are the popping cork and spinner baits.

new concept

I used to buy popping corks at different stores and I would take them home and modify them. I would always cut the bottom loop off and add an extra 1/4oz weight. Well once Rob got wind of this he wasn’t having it anymore. He designed a new ½ – ¾ oz weighted popping cork. It took just short of a year testing different variations before coming down to the final version. The final version that I use is a 3/4 oz “Tim’s Wind Cheater” it is coated in polyurethane to strengthen the shell of the cork and added rattles inside the cork to give it that extra advantage. I have used this cork exclusively to help with several top 10 finishes in tournaments and win Big Trout a couple times last year in the IFA tournaments. I haven’t met a gust or steady wind you can’t throw this cork in yet.

The second bait is the Mighty Mite spinner blades. These typical looking spinner blades are smaller and more versatile than your standard redfish magic or other brand that you might use. With the profile of the spinner bait being smaller, you still get the big thump of the blade. I exclusively throw these spinners on flats where I know reds roam and ledges where I think flounder would lie. The spinner bait is a great search tool as the thump of the blade is a dinner bell that is being rung throughout the water. Working the grass lines and rows of oysters with any of the spinners will find the fish if they are around.

These are just a couple of the products offered at www.newconceptlures.com. Rob covers all aspects of fishing from freshwater, inshore, off shore, and everything else. Happy fishing.
