We’ve all used a kayak krate at some point in our kayak fishing adventures. Some of us started out with a simple milk crate, some use the BlackPak from YakAttack. The evolution of the Kayak Krate is now upon us from Wilderness Systems.A kayak krate gives us more storage capabilities in an otherwise limited vessel as far as storage goes Wilderness Systems Kayaks recently unveiled their version of this with the aptly named, Kayak Krate. The Kayak Krate from Wilderness Systems is simply the penultimate when it comes to on board kayak storage. It fitted perfectly in the tankwell of my ATAK 120, facing forward and to the side. The Krate features a stylish design which would match most colored kayaks on the market, yet is highly functional at the same time. The Krate comes ready to go to work as there is no assembly required. You could simply open it from the box, throw it your yak, and head straight to the water. The Krate also comes with 4 rod holders as well as 4 brackets to raise the rod holders higher if the angler needed or desired.

The lid to the Krate also features divided compartments allowing the angler to store essential items with quick and easy access. I keep gear that I want or need to get to quickly such as a Cuda bait knife, bait scents, and specific plastics. The main compartment of the Krate features tons of room to store gear. While I’m not one to carry a ton of stuff with me, it easily holds my stringer, an oversized tackle tray, towel, and rain gear with plenty of room to spare. I’m also a fan of the pouched dividers that come with the Krate. There are slots which keep them positioned in the main compartment and these are perfect for easy access to bags of extra soft plastics.

The Krate also has 4 tie down points giving the angler ease of locking it down in their tankwell. The latches are extremely easy to use while out on the water, and when latched down the Krate is water resistant. The Krate is also fairly light, even with gear inside, making it easy to transport with the grips on the sides. The price point of the Kayak Krate is only $125.00 which makes it a great price. The Kayak Krate from Wilderness Systems not only looks great, but serves as a great tool to be added to your kayak fishing arsenal.

Thanks for the review of the Krate. I’ve recently bought my first kayak (wildy pilot 12) and am preparing it for the lake. I still don’t know where to place the sonar and tackle but I’m taking any advice I can.
