HUK Performance Fishing Apparel is our feature for Day 4 of our 25 Days of Christmas Gift Guide. Long time Yak Outlaws follower, Jay Martin, shares why the performance gear from HUK is perfect for the angler who wants quality gear with a little bit of an edge.
I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t get on the HUK Performance train until recently. I’ve seen the reviews and a only a handful of anglers wearing their gear so I’ve been quietly waiting in the background. One of the biggest reasons that I hadn’t purchased any of their gear is that there hasn’t been much of a representation of their product line here in Houston, TX. Sure I could’ve ordered items online through their website www.hukgear.com
but to be honest, I generally have to at least touch things before I buy it.
Enter Dick’s Sporting Goods to the Houston market a few months back and finally, HUK Performance Fishing has a very strong representation of their product line. I found myself in one of the newly opened Dick’s a few days prior to the Elite Kayak Series Tournament with one goal in mind, to find a shirt to match my kayak. My thought here was simple, if I was going to deliver a poor performance, I’m gonna make sure I looked good doing it! I decided on the HUK Kryptek Solid Raglan
long sleeve in the Kryptek Orange color to match my Ocean Kayak 4.7 Ultra in Orange Urban Camo. I immediately felt inspired by the look and feel of this shirt upon trying it on in the dressing room and made my way to the checkout.
Once I got home, my wife and kids were impressed with my selection and were happy to see “I wasn’t going to be wearing the same old boring fishing shirts”. What they don’t know, or frankly probably don’t care, is that this shirt not only looks and feels great but is one of the most impressive performance technologies in outerwear there is on the market. The cooling technology and SPF protection are on par, if not slightly better, comparing against other brands performance but HUK Performance has really separated themselves from the pack with their Stain Release and Anti-Microbial technologies. On day one of the tournament I landed nothing short of 20 redfish out of deep, thick, Texas marsh mud that normally would have me looking like a mess. I’m happy to report that all that fish slime and marsh mud didn’t even pose a threat to this shirt! Heck, after looking at some pictures it doesn’t even look like I went fishing, let alone out of a kayak in the marsh.
Since then, I had my birthday recently and my wife decided I needed to add to my new product line and went all out bananas while gifting me 2 hats, a short sleeve and a performance hoodie. Safe to say, she likes HUK style. I was able to put my new gifted gear to great use on our recent Thanksgiving Louisiana trip not only fishing, but hanging out with family as well and boy did it hold up to the test again…..but I’m gonna share that whole story later…
Be sure to checkout www.hukgear.com
and use promo code HUK25

In short, my wife and kids love the look and I love the look AND the performance of HUK Performance. As someone who enjoys wearing edgy designs, it’s nice to see a company finally tie style with function to satisfy my family’s style wow factor and my functional expectations. Merry Christmas and Tight Lines!
