Quality Time

My wife & I decided to play hooky one day last week to hit the water for some quality time together.  It had been a considerable time since we’d had the opportunity to hit the DSCF0514water together and spend some time away from all the hustle & bustle.  We dropped the kids off at Pre-K, loaded up the yaks and the gear and headed to the water.  It was a perfect day, clear blue bird skies, sunny & just enough of a breeze to make for a comfortable day on the water.  The bite started off slow, then we got into a mess of baby redfish, which was fun.  We then moved to test out a couple other spots and that’s when it got entertaining.  Kaycee got things started with a nice redfish, then landed a nice and fat 23″ redfish… My excitement came from a redfish as well.  I’d just casted out a line and laid the rod on the deck on my yak, and as soon as I turned my attention a redfish hit it hard, and yanked it right off the yak.  I tried to grab it before it took off, but missed, so I jumped up and dove off the yak for it.  Obviously I didn’t see the wife’s expression, but I’m sure it was pure amusement.  She wanted to grab the camera to video it, but had to snag my yak from floating off.  Luckily I was able to grab the rod and fight the fish in for landing it.  I think I was more grateful to retrieve the rod than anything else as it was a nice custom rod I’d won while fishing Paddle Palooza X in Louisiana and winning the largest redfish… Great day on the water, with some memorable laughs is what makes it truly some Quality Time…DSCF0512
