ABU Garcia Revo Inshore and Revo Toro Beast Reviews

ABU Garcia reels have always been a staple in our house starting at a very early age (about 10 years old). My first bait caster was the 5000C, then a 2500C. Later I picked up a couple 6000C’s and I just plain wore them all out after 25 years of use. That kind of longevity is what I look for in my fishing equipment and ABU Garcia has never let me down. From 1992-2006 I was exclusively fishing saltwater with ninety percent of that offshore trolling. I didn’t get back to the ABU Garcia’s until I moved to Georgia in 2006. Bought a bass boat and several Revo bass reels. In 2013 my wife bought me a Revo Orra SX as I am back in the salt. This has been my number one go to reel for medium size baits ever since. So you might say I have some time on the water with ABU Garcia products.

I recently acquired ABU Garcia’s Revo Toro Beast and their latest addition the Revo Inshore. I paired the Toro up with a custom built 7’-6” G-Loomis Heavy Musky rod designed for fighting big Tarpon. The Inshore I put on my GLX G-Loomis which my Revo Orra SX had been on to give it a direct comparison. I also used it on a Shimano Compre CPX66MB for lighter baits.

The Revo Toro Beast I am using to replace my Shimano Calcutta 400 with to throw heavy lures for big snook and tarpon. While I have thrown said lures I have yet to locate the intended target. Tarpon are gone for the year until things warm up again. Big snook have been in transition since I got the Toro and a bit elusive from the kayak. But the consistently cooler weather will have pushed them back into the rivers. My next trip out will be on the Chaz to see what we can find. All that being said slinging a 5-6 oz lure on a big rod from a kayak is a new experience. I was easily hitting 200 feet with the LIVETARGET Mullet Wake Bait and once I am more comfortable with it I will easily get passed that mark.

It comes with three different handles. I really like the option of having a choice of handles to work with, nice touch ABU! I am currently using the power handle. The Toro comes in two different sizes and two gear ratios of 4.9:1 and 6.2:1. Each comes in a left or right hand retrieve making a total of eight models with a of MSRP 399.95.

The Revo Inshore has been a dream to work with. Throwing the exact same lure the LIVETARGET Sardine Swimbait that I throw with the Orra I was getting about another 25-30 feet further in distance. I am still dialing in the braking system and once its there is will be damn near impossible to back lash this beauty. Paired up on the Shimano rod and slinging a Yo-Zuri Pencil Walk the Dog lure I was dumping half the spool of Power Pro 20# on a cast, crazy range!! I battled trout, reds, snook, ladyfish, and jacks so far with flawless performance (I like this reel just a little bit). The Inshore comes in left or right hand retrieve with a 7.3:1 gear ratio. It’s MSRP is 249.95. And the color scheme is right up my ally, black with blue trim on both models.

The following specs came directly from the ABU Garcia site.

What all these spec’s boil down to are two very badass powerhouse saltwater reels that I will get a whole lot of years of service out of. I will check back in with the Revo Toro once I have battled some monsters with it and pass along the update. This is my last installment for our Christmas Gift Guide and I hope that Yak Outlaws has helped find your angler the perfect gift. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
